Laurel Simmons was stunned. Her sister, obviously out of her mind, had just bid on and won a week’s vacation for two at actor Ryan Crandall’s beach house on Martha’s Vineyard. And then, Tammy announced she was giving the “dream” vacation to Laurel for an early birthday present.

A Dream for Love is the first book in Lisa Belcastro’s Possible Dreams series. If the rest of the books are as good as this one, she has a hit series on her hands. I loved the book and the characters. Gracie is delightful and Laurel’s sister, Tammy, is a hoot. Laurel and Ryan will grow on you as the book progresses. Almost as charming as the story and the characters is the setting: Belcastro lives on the Vineyard and obviously loves her home island. I found myself wanting to visit to sample the delicacies and the scenery. Light and breezy with a tinge of mystery and drama, A Dream for Love (Possible Dreams Book 1) (Click link to purchase) is well worth five stars.

A Dream for LoveLisa Belcastro is an award-winning author who does live on Martha’s Vineyard, the setting for her Winds of Change series and for the Possible Dreams series. A Dream for Love is Lisa’s fifth novel. Her debut novel, Shenandoah Nights, won the Christian Small Publisher’s Association’s (CSPA) Romance Book of the Year Award in 2014. Deb’s Dozen: Baseball, Sibling Rivalry, Snappy Repartee, Mystery–Double Header Hits a Home Run!

Double Header by Clarice G. James is a most delightful debut novel that will be enjoyed by both guys and gals. Siblings Casey Gallagher and Griffin McGee write a sports column titled “Double Header” noted for their bickering back and forth as well as snappy repartee. Casey also works for a marketing company, and her husband, Sam, is a police officer. Griffin, a school teacher and coach, is married to Jillian, who is expecting their first child.

Off to their traditional stint at spring training watching the Boston Red Sox, Casey and Griffin are entranced by the pitcher-catcher team from South Boston, Mike Hennessey and Darin Flynn, dubbed by our trio, The Irish Twins. After the first day’s workout, the duo heads to a golf course to play nine holes. Griffin comes back with a tee time to Casey’s amazement and …with the Irish Twins themselves.

Back at work at both their day jobs and their columns, Casey receives a letter that spins her world worse than a close pitch. What should she do? The letter’s contents concern her family—how does she determine the truth—and does she tell them?

As Casey is working her way through the dilemma, she and Sam must come to grips with Casey’s unhealthy mourning of her dad’s death as well as the current state of their marriage and goals. Griffin and Jillian have the whole morning sickness what are we going to do now do we want to know the sex of the baby thing going on. On top of their day jobs and personal lives, their agent, Roberta, is nagging them about the future of “Double Header” … are they going to expand, do more TV and radio, write those sports biographies … or are they going to just keep schlepping along.

You’ll absolutely love Casey Gallaher—the story is told from her point of view—and her wacky wit. I giggled and laughed out loud several times while reading. And Griffin is a typical younger brother. The Irish Twins are a delight as are Casey’s husband, Sam, and his protégé, Tommy Colletti. If you happen to be a Bosox fan and know the area, you’ll love all the local references. If not, you’ll still love the story, the mystery, and the repartee. Clarice James has knocked it out of the park with Double Header—five stars! Buy it now!

Deb’s Dozen: Cold Shot, Cold Cases, New Evidence, Plus Hot Romance Equals Action Suspense!

Dani Pettrey’s written yet another action-suspense book (the start of the Chesapeake Valor series) that will have you reading late into the night! Cold Shot features an ex SWAT-team sniper, a forensic anthropologist, and an FBI agent—what a triangle!

Griffin McCray, the ex-sniper, is hiding away from life as a park ranger at Gettysburg after a case went bad. The quiet life is just what he thinks he wants until two relic hunters uncover skeletal remains that are not relics. McCray wants the case to go away, but Finley Scott, the forensic anthropologist, determines the bones are indeed modern ones—and the evidence points to the work of an expert sniper. Declan Grey from the FBI adds to the mix as does Parker Mitchell from CSI–a childhood friend.

Griffin is drawn to Finley, as is Declan. Griffin realizes he is going to have to face those dark times and devils in his life in order to save his reputation and protect those he loves. And then there’re all those cross-points in their lives getting them ever more entwined.

You’re gonna love this one. Twists and turns and action and suspense and romance and murder and salvation—all wrapped up in one neat package. Five Stars again, Dani!

Dani Pettrey’s debut series, Alaskan Courage, had me anxiously awaiting each new book. The Chesapeake Valor series is doing the same. I was blessed by the author with an Advanced Reader Copy (the book comes out in February 2016) and I’m already counting the days until the next book emerges from her diabolically brilliant mind.
