Deb’s Dozen: Struggling author inherits brother’s company—virtual reality turns into a virtual hell.

H. L. Wegley writes extremely well-researched romantic suspense. Virtuality warns us that virtual reality portends dangers we might not realize.

Struggling author Vince van Gordon returns home because his brother Paul is dying. Paul tells Vince that Virtuality, his technology company, will be Vince’s upon Paul’s death. His last words to Vince plead, “Don’t sell Virtuality. Jess can help.”

Vince knows next to nothing about the company or technology or virtual reality. And he left home in the first place because of Jess. He believed she loved Paul instead of him, which destroyed him—his best friend loved another.

Jess never knew why Vince left—she only knew she was heartbroken at his leaving. She’s always loved him—he was her best friend! Now she knows she has to help Vince save Paul’s company.

Virtuality has taken virtual reality to lengths perhaps never anticipated when the concept originated. Now, the experience, because of technological advances, can addict a person to its use. A porn king pin, in an industry often at the forefront of new technology, hatches a scheme to take over the company.

Jess and Vince struggle to evade the killers sent by the king pin and to save the company. Along the way, they must overcome the feelings they had and acknowledge the feelings they now realize they never lost. I couldn’t put the book down. Wegley knows whereof he writes and therefore, the education I received along with the excitement kept me turning page after page. Five stars!

Virtual realityH. L. Wegley served in the Air Force as an Intelligence Analyst and a Weather Officer. He has worked as a research scientist and developed computing systems. Harry and his wife retired near Seattle. Wegley writes, to quote Harry, “inspirational thrillers and high-action, romantic-suspense novels.”

Lake Vacation Turns Into Damsel Rescue

Deb’s Dozen: Vacationing at the lake brings the rescue of a damsel in distress.

Lynette Eason is one of my all-time favorite authors. I love the way she writes and her character development. She has done herself proud with Code of Valor, the third in the Blue Justice series demonstrates action/suspense at its finest.

Detective Brady St. John, residing at a family friend’s lake cottage, desperately needs a vacation. However, he hears a piercing scream which disrupts his peaceful setting. Managing to rescue the woman from her would-be killer, Brady determines to keep her safe—no matter the cost.

The rescued woman, Emily Chastain, trusts almost no one. She must go along with Brady, who saved her life, but what she doesn’t know about the killer and his rationale, may just yet kill her—and Brady.

The St. John family, a law enforcement featured in the earlier action/suspense Blue Justice books, all pull together to solve the mystery of Emily and to attempt to bring down a nefarious criminal. This book captured me from the onset. I love diving and Brady is on the police dive team. Emily, a feisty heroine who knows her own mind, keeps herself involved, unwilling to let strangers care for her safety.

Of course, romance follows. Brady is drawn to Emily and Emily to him. But he reels still from the betrayal of a former girlfriend. Because a man hurt her too in the past, Emily pushes away the feelings evoked by a total stranger. As a result, you’ll love this book–wanting to see the outcome. The twists and turns keep you guessing as to the outcomes. The ending, perfectly written, delighted both my romantic nature and my sense of justice. Five stars!

Action/suspenseLynette Eason is a prolific, many times-awarded author with five series to her credit along with several standalone books. She’s won three Carol Awards, the Selah Award, the Golden Scroll Award, and the Inspirational Reader’s Choice Award to name a few. She and her family live in South Carolina. She often travels (as a photograph) with her friends who call her “Flat Lynette” and take pictures of the picture as they travel to different places. Great sense of humor—great author.

Deb’s Dozen: Pregnant Widow and Disgraced Man Search for Healing with Faith and Honor

Robin Lee Hatcher’s Who I Am with You is a sweet story of faith and forgiveness. Jessica Mason’s husband and child died in an auto accident the day he asked for a divorce. After their deaths, she discovered her pregnancy. Jessica, heartbroken and bitter, isolates herself in her rural home and finds solace through her art. Ridley Chesterfield, an IT specialist accused of leaking a candidate’s secret to the press, hides away at his parent’s home in Hope Valley. He meets his next-door neighbor, Jessica, while trying to determine the owner of a stray dog he found.

Because of the dog, who Jessica helps names Kris, the two become friends—isolated in a rural area. Both of them feel an attraction to the other, but both, uncomfortable about letting themselves feel anything more, push the feelings aside. Jessica’s bitterness and sorrow still curtail her emotions—and she needs to consider the baby. Ridley knows his innocence, but the media feeding frenzy gives him a bad reputation. He’s not sure if he’ll ever be able to work in the city again. Both have faith but focus on their losses.

I loved this story. One can surmise from the beginning that Jessica and Ridley will get together, but Hatcher writes the process of their relationship tenderly and with empathy. I loved the two characters. Jessica struggles with forgiveness and faith in God, and Ridley struggles with career decisions and his attraction to Jessica. Because of the sweetness of their relationship, you will love the story and the characters too. Four stars.

Robin Lee Hatcher is an award-winning author with over five million copies of her books in print. Wow! She has won just about every award possible, some multiple times, and has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from Romance Writers of America and the American Fiction Writers Association.

She and her husband live in Idaho and enjoy being outdoors. A mom and grandmom, Robin does Bible journaling, attends BSF, and does decorative planning among other activities. She says they also live with “a demanding Papillon dog and a persnickety tuxedo cat.”
