Deb’s Dozen: A drug cartel contract on her life, a rescuer out of nowhere.

H. L. Wegley entertains me always with his various series. No Turning Back is the third book in the Witness Protection group.

Beth Sanchez, the lone survivor when the Del Rio drug cartel murders the rest of her family and her entire town, hikes near the Rio Grande with a tour group. Seven years after the massacre, she’s a US citizen and ready to start living again. She turns her ankle, but Drew West, one of the tour members, helps her out. When Beth sees drug runners coming across the river, she panics and tells Drew they must hide immediately! Fate would decree the runners are members of the cartel—Drew draws a weapon and protects her from both a rattlesnake and the snakes in the cartel raft, killing the snake and wounding one of the cartel members.

Obviously, Drew is not just a tourist and resolves to keep Beth safe. Their journey takes them from Texas to Oregon trying to run from Hector Suarez, the cartel leader determined to murder the last witness/ member of his nemesis’s family. Great, wonderful development of the characters of Beth and Drew. I love the way Wegley draws his characters—making them people you’d like to know. No Turning Back is another five-star book.

Romantic SuspenseH. L. Wegley retired from Air Force after serving as intelligence analyst and a weather officer. He also worked as a research scientist and wrote computing systems for Boeing. He lives with his wife near Seattle. Wegley writes award-winning, high-action, romantic-suspense novels, and inspirational thrillers.

The author gifted me with a copy of No Turning Back, but I was in no way obligated to write a review.

Fascinating Historical Fiction: Mist O’er The Voyager

Deb’s Dozen: Young woman escapes unwelcome suitor and journeys with the French voyageurs north.

Mist O’er the Voyageur by Naomi Musch was recommended to me by a close friend whose opinion I value. Although not the type of historical fiction I usually read, the writing held my attention from start to finish. Set in Montreal during the era of the French Voyagers, the book aptly creates the environment, so you feel as if you are there during that time. Having been canoeing in the north woods of Minnesota as a young woman, I can imagine the long days of paddling and difficult portaging described in Mist.

You will enjoy getting to know Brigitte Marchal as the death of her aunt leaves her alone and unprotected. After a suitor abuses her when she refuses his attentions, she decides to disguise herself and sign on as an engagé with the North West company to head North to try to find her long-lost and far-traveled father. Her exploits intrigue as she tries to conceal her sex during the long trip. Excellent read—four stars.

To quote her, “I’m author/writer Naomi Musch. I was born and raised in central Wisconsin and now make my home in Wisconsin’s pristine north woods, where my husband Jeff and I live as epically as God allows near our five young adults and passel of grand-children. Amidst it, I write about imperfect people who are finding hope and faith to overcome their struggles, whether the story venue is rich in American history or along more contemporary lines.”

Deb’s Dozen: Billy Graham: called by God to be the evangelist to the world.

Billy Graham has been often called America’s pastor and an evangelist to the world. Most of us have heard of him; some have heard excerpts from his crusades; while others are fortunate enough to have heard him in person. The Billy Graham Evangelical Association and Virgil Films have produced the story of Mr. Graham’s life from farm boy to student to preacher to evangelist. He spoke where the Lord called him: in the US, North Korea, London, Moscow, South Africa, and more. As a result, he fulfilled the Great Commission to go unto all the world.

The Evangelist’s Message:

Billy Graham‘s message was simple. God loves you. He loves you so much He sent His son to die for your sins on a Roman cross. He raised His son from the dead to reign forever with Him in Heaven. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to God the Father but through Him. And those who are in Him are a new creation, because the old has passed away, and all has become new. He closed every message with an invitation to come to Christ.

Evangelist

The Evangelist’s Mission:

Billy Graham said, “My one purpose in life is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ.” The film inspires reflection because through his life we are reminded of those events in our history we may have forgotten. Martin Luther King and segregation, the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11, and more. America’s pastor Billy Graham went to these places shortly after the events occurred and helped bring comfort to the suffering and to the nation.

Every president from Dwight Eisenhower to Donald Trump confided in Billy Graham and called him friend. As an evangelist, he took the message of the gospel all over the world. The film reminds us of how far our nation has progressed, however, we have so far yet to go. Billy Graham taught us that God is love and for us who love God, the fruit of the Spirit is love, and we will demonstrate that by loving others. How much today we need to practice that love for all humankind.

Billy Graham: An Extraordinary Journey will release on DVD and digital HD on November 6–one day before what would have been Billy’s 100th birthday. The Billy Graham Evangelical Association created this documentary, which features sound bites, news footage, interviews, and video clips from his incredible career and life. This humble man and great evangelist impacted world history and the entire world for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Certainly, his life was an extraordinary journey. You will want to purchase a copy of this DVD for your own.

COLLIDE Media Group gave me the opportunity to screen the film Billy Graham: An Extraordinary Journey, but I was in no way obligated to write a review. I have purchased a copy to view again. Watching the story of his incredible life has been a blessing.
